Floor check

See the lowest Python version your code will actually run on, before someone on an older interpreter finds out for you.

Read the full description

Syntax checks and linters read code that parses; they say nothing about code that parses and then raises. A union annotation like "int | None" compiles on 3.9 and throws TypeError the moment the module is imported, and "import tomllib" compiles and then fails to find the module. This reads the source with ast, finds both classes, and compares what the code needs against what the project declares in pyproject.toml, setup.cfg or deps.toml. It never imports, executes or pulls anything it reads, it writes nothing, and it runs no subprocess at all. It runs its own positive and negative cases before the scan, on your machine, against the same reader the scan uses, and refuses to call the scan trustworthy if any of them fail. Reporting too much is the failure that matters here, because a false needs-3.11 sends an author chasing a portability bug that does not exist, so every category carries cases

Before you run it1 local tool

Everything here is checked on your machine when rote inspects the play. This page never learns what you have installed or which credentials you hold.

  • ○
    python3local tool

Requires >=3.8.0. Run rote play inspect to check your host; unverified versions remain unknown.

Inputs4, all optional

rote asks for these before running and shows the defaults it will use.

  • Targettarget

What to read: a .py file, a directory, a Play package directory, an owner/name reference such as modiqo/hello, or all to read every Play installed in the rote store.

    optionalstringdefault .custom value allowed
  • Floorfloor

The oldest Python you intend to support, as major.minor. 3.9 is the default because that is what a stock macOS with only the Xcode command line tools provides.

    optionalstringdefault 3.9custom value allowed
  • Flows rootflows_root

Directory holding installed Play packages, used when target is all or an owner/name reference.

    optionalstringdefault ~/.rote/flowscustom value allowed
  • Strictstrict

Set to true to exit non-zero when anything needs a newer Python than it declares. Off by default, because a finding is information rather than a failure.

    optionalstringdefault falsecustom value allowed

Credential values and current readiness remain local. Opening this page never prompts for a credential, opens an authorization browser, or calls a service this play uses.

A play is a published, versioned automation package that runs on your own machine through rote, a free command-line tool. Opening this page installs nothing and runs nothing.
