What did i leave unfinished
The unfinished work sitting in your notes, sorted by how long it has been sitting.
Read the full description
Reads your markdown and text files, pulls out unchecked checkboxes and the TODO and FIXME markers you left yourself, and leads with the files you stopped editing weeks ago rather than the one you touched this morning. A note you edited today is open, not forgotten; the whole point is the other kind. It counts what it ticked off too, so a file with nine of ten boxes done reads differently from one with none. Skips fenced code blocks, because a TODO in a snippet is usually an example rather than your task. Reconciles its own counts before it reports and says so if they disagree, and a walk that hit its own bounds is never allowed to report all clear. Reads your files and writes nothing, makes no network call, needs no credential, and runs on python3 alone.
Before you run it1 local tool
Everything here is checked on your machine when rote inspects the play. This page never learns what you have installed or which credentials you hold.
- ○python3local tool
Must be on your PATH when used. minimum version undeclared.
Inputs6, all optional
rote asks for these before running and shows the defaults it will use.
- Roots
rootsComma-separated folders holding your notes. Point it at wherever you actually write, whether that is a vault, a repo of markdown, or a Desktop folder.
optionalstringdefault~/Documentsexample~/notes,~/Desktopcustom value allowed - Stale days
stale_daysHow many days untouched before a file counts as stale and gets pulled to the top. Lower it for a tighter loop, raise it for a monthly clear-out. This is the value that changes between runs.
optionalstringdefault7example30custom value allowed - Include markers
include_markersCount TODO, FIXME, XXX, HACK and WIP markers as unfinished work alongside unchecked boxes. Turn it off to see checkboxes alone.

- Show items
show_itemsPrint the individual unfinished lines under each file. Turn it off for a count-only sweep across a large vault.

- Max depth
max_depthHow deep to walk below each root. The bound is reported rather than applied quietly, so a truncated sweep can never report all clear.
optionalstringdefault5example8custom value allowed - Max files
max_filesMost files to read in one sweep. Hitting it is reported, never silent.

Credential values and current readiness remain local. Opening this page never prompts for a credential, opens an authorization browser, or calls a service this play uses.
A play is a published, versioned automation package that runs on your own machine through rote, a free command-line tool. Opening this page installs nothing and runs nothing.
